How many AI-based applications have you used today? The hype around everything AI is enormous, huge amounts of capital are flowing from tech companies into the development of AI applications. The dream of more efficient work and faster processes is reminiscent of the early days when the internet became popular with the general population or the first smartphones came onto the market.
Which areas of your life will AI really change? Self-proclaimed AI gurus post and comment on everything that starts with the two letters AI on social networks. That doesn't help much, because in the end it's all about market-ready products that are supposed to accompany my day and make it easier. So far, AI has not changed our daily routine in the revolutionary way that is sometimes proclaimed in articles and on stages at so-called tech conferences. Is it all a bubble that will burst, similar to the dot-com debacle?
I wouldn't go that far, because AI offers enormous development potential and we are only at the very beginning of its development. The current models, including those of OpenAI, are not yet mature enough to completely change my everyday life, but let's take a look at three areas that will undergo an interesting transformation as a result of AI applications.
The daily companion as your assistant
The idea of a pair of glasses or a simple button in your ear that accompanies you throughout the day and uses AI models to predict and plan your day with you is a very smart idea. The AI Agent supports you as a personal assistant in all matters throughout the day.
The future of media
Which AI-supported app searches out your media content to read the most important daily news? Are there false news stories among them that an AI recognizes and sorts out very quickly? In the media sector in particular, there is enormous potential for Startups to develop AI applications for consumers and media groups.
Complete automation
In the future, robots and AI-supported applications will replace humans even more in banking transactions, at the airport or when buying a coffee or a burger. Many people I talk to are afraid of this idea and already miss talking to people at the counter while getting a coffee to go. These change processes will be slow, but I believe they will lead to many cost savings for many companies. At the same time, they will challenge people to no longer aspire to an office job at a large corporation, e.g. in the food industry or at a bank. AI-supported automation of work processes will lead to massive job losses in previously successful industries.
The AI school
Especially when it comes to learning content for pupils, AI mentors can be an important help and supplement to what the human teacher explains to the pupils. Students with learning difficulties who are afraid to admit this and say it in front of the classroom have an AI mentor to help them with their daily schoolwork.
In addition, we are already seeing many AI applications in the medical and research sectors that speed up and simplify work processes in these areas. So let's stop being pessimistic? The need for microchips capable of all AI applications and the extremely high energy requirements of the future are still points that need to be considered, despite all the hype and funny AI-generated images.
Market-ready products for all areas of life that significantly improve our lives remain the benchmark that will decide what will become of the AI boom.
